Why It Matters
To Lilly:
When people feel connected to their work and supported in doing it, the results show in the quality of ideas, the strength of teams and our ability to attract and retain talent. Understanding how employees experience Lilly helps us keep getting better.
To the World:
Engaged people are the foundation of meaningful progress, within companies and across society. When employees are empowered to grow, contribute, and lead with purpose, they help create healthier workplaces, stronger communities, and more impactful solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
Approach
Since 1995, eligible employees have been invited to take part in engagement surveys, which help leaders throughout the organization better understand employee sentiment. Survey data helps us track how different initiatives are progressing, measure the engagement of our employees, and inform changes that may be necessary to improve aspects of innovation and productivity. In 2025, the survey was shifted to an annual cadence, with all eligible employees invited to participate. We provide the survey in multiple languages to make it accessible to our global workforce.
Progress
Employee engagement remains one of the clearest windows into how our people experience working at Lilly, and we use it to hold ourselves accountable.
In 2025, our employee engagement survey was modernized to improve accessibility and relevance, resulting in a record 78% response rate. We view the increased participation as a signal that employees feel empowered to share their perspectives and help shape how Lilly operates. The survey results underscore our enduring strengths: 95% feel their work contributes to the company’s purpose, 88% rate leaders highly for communicating physical safety expectations, and 84% agree that teams are effective at overcoming barriers to achieve results.
Our total turnover in 2025 was 9%, up from 7% in 2024, but still below industry averages.
